We believe that we are potentially close to a future where residential scale PV permitting could be fully digital.
Through the use of the IEP Model’s data structures, we’ve shown that we can fully create a machine readable version of a PV system design. This type of publicly standardized, machine readable data structure is what’s required to enable building officials to employ PV design check software. Instead of manually reviewing documents to approve a permit, this process could be fully automated by the use of code check software that can read the submitted designs. This can significantly reduce effort on local building officials and ensure consistent application of the building code, and lower costs for all concerned.
